๐ How to Use Dynamic Scoring
Get a clear, flexible scoring system inside every Jira issue, no spreadsheets, no manual formulas.
๐งญ Overview
Dynamic Score is a Jira Cloud app that lets you calculate a custom score inside any issue, based on dropdowns, formulas, weights, and thresholds you configure in Space Settings โ Apps โ Dynamic Score.
Itโs perfect for teams who need consistent prioritization, risk evaluation, or decision scoring across their space โ product, engineering, delivery, support, finance, or compliance.
Once you set up your scoring model, everything appears automatically in the issue panel.
๐ Getting Started
Open any issue in Jira.
Find the Dynamic Score panel.
Wait a moment while your active scoring configuration loads.
Select values from the dropdowns.
See the score update instantly โ no refresh needed.
Click Save to store the score on the issue (optional: add it as a comment).
If thereโs no configuration yet, the app will ask you to visit Space Settings to create one.
๐งฉ What You See in the Issue Panel
๐ฝ Dropdowns
These dropdowns come from your active scoring configuration.
Each one represents an input to your scoring formula โ for example:
Impact
Value
Effort
Cost
Probability
Complexity
Confidence
Depending on the scoring type, you may see 2โ6 dropdowns.
The scoring logic (weights, formulas, rules) is managed entirely in Space Settings.
๐งฎ Total Score
At the bottom of the panel youโll see:
Total score: X
This number is calculated from:
Base scores of selected options
Formula preset (Weighted, Impact/Effort, Financial, Risk Matrix, or Basic Scoring)
Additional rules (Basic Scoring only)
Thresholds for Low/Medium/High (Risk badge)
The score updates instantly whenever you change selections.
๐ฏ Risk Badge (optional)
If your configuration includes Risk thresholds, the app will automatically show:
๐ข Low
๐ก Medium
๐ด High
This gives teams a quick visual signal for risk, urgency, financial impact, or any other metric your configuration represents.
Thresholds are set in Space Settings.
๐พ Saving Your Score
Press Save to store:
Selected options
Total score
Risk label (if configured)
You can also toggle Add comment to automatically post a readable summary in the issue comments, for example:
Saved score: 8 ยท Medium
Configuration: Default Scoring v1
ยท Impact: High
ยท Effort: Medium
ยท Value: Low
This is useful for audit trails, sprint reviews, or alignment across teams.
๐ค Switching Between Configurations
If your space has more than one scoring configuration, you can switch them directly inside the issue panel using the Configuration dropdown.
The panel will automatically reload the associated dropdowns, formulas, and thresholds.

๐งช How It Works Under the Hood
Dynamic Score loads:
Your active configuration from space properties
Dropdown definitions
Formula presets (Weighted, Impact/Effort, Risk Matrix, Financial, Basic)
Thresholds
Rules (Basic Scoring only)
Then it evaluates your scoring inputs in real time using the selected formula.
When you save, your chosen values are stored in issue.properties.dynamic-scoring-values.
๐ก Permissions & Data
Dynamic Score only reads:
Issue ID
Issue properties
Space scoring configuration
And only stores:
Your scoring selections
Final score
Optional comment metadata
It never reads issue descriptions, custom fields, or internal content.
๐งฉ Tips for Teams
Create multiple configurations for different needs (e.g., Delivery Score, Risk Score, Financial Score).
Use risk badges to flag critical items in sprint planning.
Add scoring as part of grooming or intake workflows.
Switch formulas easily without changing any issues.
๐ก Best Practice
Keep your dropdown options and base scores simple โ teams adopt scoring systems faster when choices are short, clear, and predictable.
